Reporting outages and power limitations in the ONS

This page has been prepared for renewable energy producers operating RES installations in cooperation with Respect Energy. It contains key information on the correct and efficient reporting of outages and power limitations in the ONS system, as well as the rules for creating REMIT notifications.

The purpose is to facilitate the preparation of notifications that are complete, accurate, and can be approved quickly.

Key principles

Outages related to negative energy prices on the RDN FIX1 market do not need to be reported in the ONS system, provided that the agreement includes a clause allowing automatic shutdown of the installation in case of negative energy prices.
Notifications must be submitted for every planned or unplanned outage and for any power limitation.
To enable editing, a notification must have the status Active.
After the event has ended, the notification status should be changed to Confirmed and the correct end date of the event should be set.

What must a REMIT notification include?

Each REMIT notification must include:

PPE code
Start date and time of the event
End date of the event. If the end date is unknown, provide an estimated date and keep the notification status Active
Power loss (Outage) – in MW Optional – a brief description of the cause of the event (e.g., failure, maintenance work)

Omitting any of the above elements will result in the notification being rejected.

Example:

An installation with a capacity of 20 MW (10 × 2 MW)

Shutdown of 2 turbines = power loss of 4 MW → The notification should indicate: Outage: 4 MW

Modifying notifications in the system

In the case of a change to a planned outage or power limitation, the notification must be updated by editing the existing entry.

Note:
Editing is only possible if the notification has the status Active.

Example:

Planned maintenance reduces the installation’s capacity from 10 MW to 8 MW on 21.09.2025 between 08:00–12:00. A power limitation of 2 MW should be reported.

If the duration or extent of the limitation changes, the notification must be updated accordingly.

For example, if the maintenance is extended by 2 hours, the notification should reflect a 2 MW limitation for 21.09.2025, 08:00–14:00.

Confirming notifications in the system

Every REMIT notification should ultimately be marked with the status Confirmed.
If the notification details may still change (e.g., unknown end time of a failure), the Confirmed status should be set only after the installation has returned to normal operation.
Notifications with the Confirmed status can no longer be edited.

Cancelling notifications in the system

In the case of an incorrectly submitted notification or the cancellation of a planned limitation, the REMIT notification must be cancelled by setting the status to Cancelled.

Note: Only notifications with the status Active can be cancelled.
